Is it better to see Victoria Falls from Zambia or Zimbabwe? ›

The Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls has 75% more viewing points, and gives an overall better perspective of the falls. In all seasons it is a great view, but if you are travelling at the end of Dry season then the Zimbabwean side is the side to pick since Zambia's views are particularly minimal.

Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 56 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are September through October.

We don't recommend visiting the Falls at the end of the dry winter season – October through November – when the water level is lowest, and the weather is very hot and humid.

Livingstone town in Zambia is a larger town than Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe) and is located approximately 10 km from the falls, whereas on the Victoria Falls side, the Falls are located a mere 2km away from the vibey, tourist town with its great selection of shops and modern cafes and restaurants.

You don't need a guide to do just Victoria Falls. Your resort will be able to help you with booking activities and driving you to and from the airport. If you are planning to do a Safari in Zimbabwe, then you will need a guide.

If you book a guided Tour of the Falls, your tour operator will pickup and drop you off from your hotel/lodge. But if you want to do a self guided tour, then you will have to make your own way there.

To enjoy Victoria Falls to the fullest, plan for three or four days. If you want to explore the surrounding areas and embark on a Southern African safari, then we recommend that you visit for at least one week.

You can walk along the paved paths on the edge of the waterfall and cross the heart-racing Knife-Edge Bridge during high-water season – an exhilarating (and soaking!) walk along the edge of the precipice, about 100 metres (328 feet) above the gorge.

The border between Zambia and Zimbabwe is located at the Victoria Falls Bridge border crossing, approximately 10 km south of Livingstone (15 minutes by taxi). Your hotel can arrange a taxi, and the driver will usually usher you through immigration, helping with any paperwork.
